The Coming Race War - The Great White Fear
If there is one thing that can be said to characterize the White population of the United States, that one thing might be defined as a sense of entitlement, an innate belief that Whites DESERVE the prosperity enjoyed since the end of World War II as the reward for three centuries of conquering all that stood in the way of the progress of the self-appointed superior race. After all, did White Americans not gain a vast territory to exploit at the expense of the Red Natives and their Brown cousins? Was not the first measure of agricultural abundance and prosperity for the elites created through the enslavement of African Blacks to provide almost-free labor? Did not the early modern American Industrial Revolution (in the form of the railroad) benefit greatly from the exploitation of the Yellow men of Asia?The one problem for the White population of the United States is that if one race seeks and achieves dominance, one must also accept the fact that the other races will seek to become the replacement dominant. Such an effort on the part of perceived inferiors would create the fear-driven imperative in the existing dominant portion of the society to maintain a privileged position and a superior status lest they suffer the fate that they themselves inflicted on the others to become dominant. In other words, when one enslaves another, one is himself enslaved. One cannot ever let down as Master lest Slave take over and reverse the roles to be played.
Such is the case today. The exploiters of the many for the benefit the few (read: the wealthy and racist elements of the Republican Party) are facing the growing likelihood that their days as top dog are numbered and dwindling. Nothing strikes more fear into their hearts than the idea that they soon won’t be Number One.
Eventually, they won’t even be Numero Dos.
While researching another topic, I managed to stumble upon a couple of remarkable articles which appear to me to be an attempt by the corporofascist propaganda machine (the so-called “liberal” media) to subtly whip up a bit of racial hysteria through the usage of governmental statistical analysis.
The Louisville Courier-Journal, presented localized coverage of a report which indicated that the immigrant population of the United States (read: non-white population) reached 100 million people, and now account for about 1/3 of the total population of the United States. As Louisville is in Kentucky, their background data reflects the changes in that state’s demographics:
Kentucky’s estimated 85,938 Hispanics made up about 2 percent of all state residents last year. But their numbers increased 43 percent from 2000, making them the state’s fastest-growing population segment (hear the fear!). Kentucky’s black population, the largest minority group, rose nearly 6 percent from 2000. Blacks now account for 7.4 percent of the state population. Asians, the third-largest minority, grew about 37 percent to 40,875.
Note the growth numbers cited. Now butt that up against this little tidbit:
Across the country, the non-Hispanic white school-age population grew 4 percent since 2000, while the number of Hispanic school-age kids surged 21 percent.
The white under-15 population
declined in all but nine states since 2000.
That klaxon you just heard going off indicates that the K-K-K-lean sheets are ready to wear. In the meantime, the “problem” is laid at the feet of those uppity White women, who aren’t performing their Divinely mandated duty - procreating fast enough to protect White Privilege:
Kentucky’s birth rate is below the level needed for the population to remain constant, said [Ron Crouch, director of the Kentucky State Data Center]. For a population to replace itself, Crouch [added], the average woman must have 2.1 children. Kentucky’s rate was 1.95 as of 2003, he said.
Now for the procreative panic-induction!
Nationwide, Crouch said, Hispanic women are averaging 2.7 children, with 1.8 children per white family and 2 children per black family.
The white population has shrunk in 16 states this decade,
including California, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania
and Massachusetts.
Never fear, White Supremacists! Those declines mostly happened in them Godless Blue Lib’rul places! Things is jest fine here in God’s Own Provincial Red States! Rest assured that your privileges are safe:
Even with growth in those groups, Kentucky and Indiana remain overwhelmingly white. More than 88 percent of Kentucky’s residents are non-Hispanic whites, a segment that rose nearly 3 percent from 2000. The increase in white residents was smaller in Indiana — 1.3 percent — where roughly 84 percent of the state is white.
There was similar coverage provided for the Rust Belt by The Detroit News, which published Michigan’s localized demographic situation:
… the white population in Michigan dropped for the second year in a row, leading to the state’s first overall drop in population since the early 1980s. Michigan’s anemic growth in population has been fueled entirely by minorities, with every one of the state’s 140,000 additional residents either Hispanic, Asian, black or other minority.
The population estimates show there were just over 19,000 fewer white residents in Michigan in 2006 than in 2005. The black population also fell by about 2,400. Meanwhile, the Hispanic population rose by nearly 7,000 from 2005 to 2006 and the Asian population grew by 6,100.
Unlike the Courier-Journal, which exclusively devoted its background to the racial makeup of Kentucky’s population, The Detroit News also looked at the Michigan’s sorry economy, and noted a correlating condition of concern:
Southeastern Michigan is the nation’s most segregated region and solving racial discord is considered crucial to Metro Detroit’s revival. In the past, discussions about race in Detroit have centered on blacks and whites, said Ozzie Rivera, director of the multicultural affairs office at Madonna University in Livonia. Although blacks remain the largest minority group in the region and state, the growing Hispanic population must trigger a wider discussion in Metro Detroit about minorities, Rivera said.
With the auto industry in such sad shape, one wonders where all of these new Michiganders will find employment.
But I digress.
Around the lower end of Lake Michigan, the situation in Illinois is presented as the “most average” in the nation according to The Bloomington Pantagraph:
Illinois [is] the most average state, according to an Associated Press analysis of data from the Census Bureau. Illinois was followed by Oregon, Michigan, Washington and Delaware. The AP ranked each state on how closely it matched national levels on 21 demographic factors, including race, age, income, education, industrial mix, immigration and the share of people living in urban and rural areas. The rankings were then combined to determine the state that best mirrors the country as a whole.
With the exception of Delaware, all of these states went Blue in 2004. This indicates to me that the sort of demographic conditions which render trepidation upon those who believe (overtly or not) in White superiority are rapidly changing things beyond their level of comfort. Becoming less Anglo is where we are headed as a nation. Nothing is likely to stop this, but that doesn’t keep the supremacists from trying, as the Pantagraph points out:
The Illinois Senate approved a bill Tuesday that would move the state’s presidential primary from March to Feb. 5, and Gov. Rod Blagojevich has promised to sign it. An argument sometimes cited for the moves: increasing the diversity of voters early in the primary season. “States that are quite vanilla ought not to be making the decisions for us,” said Illinois House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie, D-Chicago.

Iowa and New Hampshire have played prominent roles in choosing presidential candidates for years, with Iowa holding caucuses in January and New Hampshire holding the first primary. [O]fficials in both states have defended their status and pledged to maintain it.
Both states are more than 90 percent white,
making them among the least diverse in the country.
To be fair, New Hampshire residents don’t deserve the sort of slap I just delivered to them, but their official position vis a vis protecting their early dates for their presidential primaries serves to make my point as an indicator of taking action intended for the protection of privilege. I’ll allow Ray Buckley, chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, to rise to the defense of these good citizens:
New Hampshire voters are well-informed and steeped in democracy, comfortable asking tough questions of town officials and presidential candidates alike, said Buckley. “Ask anyone who has been to the New Hampshire primary and they will tell you about the intensity of the questions,” Buckley said. “You are going to have to answer tough questions about Katrina, about drug use in inner cities. You are going to have to answer questions about the war in Iraq. … We are not in awe of anyone.”
I will stipulate this to be so. Folks in New Hampshire support impeaching the First Racist and the president and president of vice themselves, voting most recently (5/9/06) in Hanover NH in support of that effort. But that isn’t the case everywhere in America. Returning to the AP analysis of the Census data, these facts emerge:
West Virginia was the least typical state — poorer, whiter, more rural — followed by Mississippi, New Hampshire, Vermont and Kentucky. Iowa ranked 41st, meaning nine states and the District of Columbia look less like the country as a whole. South Carolina, which also has an early primary, ranked 24th.
In 2004 Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, and West Virginia voted for White Supremacy Government while New Hampshire and Vermont registered support for diversity despite their sensational status as the nearly-pure domain of the Caucasian.
But by their actions you will know them, and appearances are often deceiving. The relative progressivism of the people of Vermont and New Hampshire just goes to show that A. Alexander of the Progressive Daily Beacon is premature in mourning the passing of The Bleeding Heart Liberal …
Unfortunately, though, Alexander is correct in bemoaning the relative silence of those who oppose the radical plans of the Bushies to turn America into a race- and religion-based plutocratic dictatorship. Too little is being done by too few to counter the efforts of the Bush administration to impede the voting of the non-White segments of the population.
It’s an uphill battle on a steep and slippery slope confronting the panicky White supremacists and their agenda to maintain political control to protect their wealth and privileges from the hated and feared minority who are stereotypically parasitic welfare queens. For instance, reporter Greg Gordon of McClatchy Newspapers revealed what he’s discovered concerning the Bush administration campaign to deny non-white American voters their rights:
During four years as a Justice Department civil rights lawyer, Hans von Spakovsky went so far in a crusade against voter fraud as to warn of its dangers under a pseudonym in a law journal article. Writing as “Publius,” von Spakovsky contended that every voter should be required to produce a photo-identification card and that there was “no evidence” that such restrictions burden minority voters disproportionately.
Now, amid a scandal over politicization of the Justice Department, Congress is beginning to examine allegations that von Spakovsky was a key player in a Republican campaign to hang onto power in Washington by suppressing the votes of minority voters. “Mr. von Spakovsky was central to the administration’s pursuit of strategies that had the effect of suppressing the minority vote,” charged Joseph Rich, a former Justice Department voting rights chief who worked under him.
[Rich] and other former career department lawyers say that von Spakovsky steered the agency toward voting rights policies not seen before, pushing to curb minor instances of election fraud by imposing sweeping restrictions that would make it harder, not easier, for Democratic-leaning poor and minority voters to cast ballots.
But the “defense” of such acts lies in the much more open and emotional issue of the non-white crossing our borders. Just recently, Fox’s Bill O’Reilly ranted about the pending Immigration Bill:
It drastically alters the United States of America. And there will be unintended consequences all over the place. The new census report says America’s now one-third minority. And in four states — California, New Mexico, Texas, and Hawaii — whites are the minority. So with the infusion of as many as 20 to 30 million new citizens in the next 10 years, the landscape of America will absolutely change.
O’Reilly’s rant figures don’t include the 11 million Mexicans who are already here in this nation illegally. But then, with George’s Oil War sucking up the available applicants for open positions, agencies like the Santa Fe Police Department are interested in hiring non-citizens as police officers to patrol their streets.
This begs the questions “If you can’t trust non-whites with the vote, why would you trust them with guns?” and “If you are so afraid of non-whites to begin with, why would you allow them to ‘protect’ you?”
Some supremacists aren’t willing to go there. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the number of extremist groups has increased by 40% since 2000, with about 144 new “nativist” groups that oppose immigration rising in the past two years alone. This indicates to me that those who saw George W. Bush as the Great White Hope have become disillusioned with him, as this rant demonstrates:
[O]ur current President and a significant fraction of the supposedly conservative party in the Senate have decided to ignore, nay encourage, a massive invasion of America by a foreign country. W once again finds himself aligned with elites rather than with a clear majority of Americans who want the invasion stopped and then reversed.
The fear is there, out in the open for all to see. But even knowing who to blame for the problem…
The government of the United States needs to decide who enter can enter the country and who can stay, not employers eager for cheap labor…
… the final “solution” is still directed toward the victims:
On a human level it’s easy to feel sympathy for Mexican citizens, many of whom are right nice folks, forced live in a poor and corrupt country. But the world is flush with poor and corrupt countries. And we can’t accommodate the billions who would rather be here than where they are.
Of course we can’t stop every Mexican from sneaking into the country. But we could slow the flow to a trickle by building a wall, by expanding the Border Patrol and allowing the agents to do their jobs with a little technological help. And by attrition we can start sending the illegals here back home.
At least this wingnut isn’t so extreme as to advocate the deployment of government snipers to kill border crossers or forcing sterilization on Mexican women after the birth of their first child. But those kind are out there [Yes, really!].
